West End Waiting

West End Waiting (WEW) created “Singing Flash Mobs” at secret locations in London at the end of October, with the final one being part of Survival in the Square on October 31st

Lee Durnford created the West End Waiting (WEW) Facebook group to attract members of the Performing Arts and Events industry with a view to creating a single, large scale Flash Mob somewhere in London.  The idea was born as a direct result of Lee’s passion for the industry which generates some £5.6billion a year in the UK, is in decline through lack of Government support in recent months due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Its purpose was to bring people in the Performing Arts and Events industry together in one place and in some way, remind the Government and the UK public that the performing arts and events industry is critically struggling.

The WEW Facebook group also enables its members to discuss relevant topics, share useful facts and support one another if and when required.

In the first 48 hours of the WEW Facebook group going live, it attracted 9,000 members.  The Group now has just over 12,200 members and is expected to grow further during the coming months.

Industry wide offers of assistance from across the country have also been received on the Facebook Group. From that, a Core Team consisting of West End Musical Directors, Production Managers, Stage Managers and Choreographers have joined West End Waiting and are meeting on a regular basis to plan and create peaceful activations to raise awareness of the plight of the performing arts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Flash Mobs concept:  Lee’s concept is being realised thanks to his passion for the industry and his management of a small team behind him.  During the Singing Flash Mobs West End performers will sing to a “West End Musicals” medley, which has been musically arranged by Mr Steve Moss, Musical Director for London’s Les Misérables.  Flash Mob locations are being kept secret in order to control crowd gathering, in accordance with government guidelines, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WEW is working in collaboration with #WeMakeEvents.
